Sales Terms & Conditions
Last updated: September 2026
These Sales Terms & Conditions apply to products, bespoke metalwork, services and experiences purchased from Steedman Blacksmith.
By placing an order or booking a service through this website, you agree to these terms.
1. About Us
Steedman Blacksmith is an independent blacksmithing and metal fabrication business based in the Scottish Borders.

2. Quotations & Bespoke Work
Most of the work undertaken by Steedman Blacksmith is bespoke.
Quotes are based on the information available at the time of quotation, including drawings, measurements, photographs, materials, finishes, installation requirements and any other information provided by the customer.
Unless otherwise stated, a quotation is valid for 30 days.
A quotation is not a confirmed order until it has been accepted and any required deposit has been paid.
If the scope of a project changes after a quotation has been accepted, any resulting additional costs will be discussed with the customer and agreed before the additional work is undertaken wherever reasonably possible.
3. Deposits & Payments
Where a deposit is required, the amount and payment schedule will be stated on the quotation or invoice.
For larger projects, Steedman Blacksmith may use staged payments, for example:
30% deposit to secure the project and allow materials to be ordered
30% payment at an agreed stage of manufacture
40% final payment upon completion or installation
The exact payment schedule may vary depending on the project and will be confirmed in the quotation.
Work may not commence until the required deposit has been received.
Ownership of goods supplied may remain with Steedman Blacksmith until payment has been received in full, where permitted by law.
4. Bespoke & Made-to-Measure Products
Bespoke products are made specifically to the customer's requirements.
This may include gates, railings, furniture, architectural metalwork, tools and other fabricated or hand-forged items.
Because bespoke goods are made to the customer's specifications, they may not carry the same cancellation rights as standard products purchased online. However, customers retain all applicable statutory rights.
Customers are responsible for ensuring that measurements, dimensions and other specifications supplied to Steedman Blacksmith are accurate.
Where Steedman Blacksmith has taken measurements or otherwise confirmed dimensions as part of the agreed service, responsibility for those measurements will be determined according to the circumstances of the project.
5. Design Changes
Reasonable design amendments may be accommodated before fabrication begins.
Once fabrication has started, changes requested by the customer may result in additional costs or changes to the agreed completion date.
We will discuss significant changes with you before carrying out additional chargeable work.
6. Materials & Finishes
We will use materials and finishes appropriate to the agreed specification.
Where a particular material, coating, colour or finish has been specified, reasonable variations in appearance may occur due to the nature of the material or finishing process.
Hand-forged items will naturally contain variations, hammer marks and other characteristics associated with traditional blacksmithing.
These variations are part of the nature of hand-forged work and are not considered defects where the item remains structurally sound and fit for its intended purpose.
7. Installation
Where installation is included, the quotation will state this.
The customer is responsible for providing reasonable access to the installation location unless otherwise agreed.
The customer should inform Steedman Blacksmith of any known issues affecting access, underground services, ground conditions, boundaries, permissions or other site restrictions before work begins.
Where unforeseen conditions are discovered during installation, additional work or costs may be required. These will be discussed with the customer before proceeding where reasonably practicable.
8. Completion & Delays
We will provide an estimated completion or installation date where possible.
Estimated dates are not guaranteed unless a specific date has been expressly agreed.
We will make reasonable efforts to keep customers informed of significant delays.
Delays caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control, including supplier delays, severe weather, unavailable materials, access problems or other unforeseen circumstances, may result in the agreed completion date being changed.
9. Product Quality & Statutory Rights
All goods supplied by Steedman Blacksmith will be as described and of satisfactory quality and fit for their intended purpose where applicable.
Services will be carried out with reasonable care and skill.
Nothing in these terms affects any statutory rights you have under UK consumer law.
If you believe a product or service is faulty or does not meet the agreed specification, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible so that we can investigate and, where appropriate, arrange a suitable remedy.
10. Returns & Refunds
Standard Products
For standard goods purchased online, consumers may have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of receiving the goods under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, subject to applicable exceptions.
Where a valid cancellation right applies, goods should normally be returned in accordance with the applicable cancellation requirements.
Bespoke Products
Goods made specifically to the customer's requirements may be excluded from the normal 14-day cancellation right.
This does not affect your statutory rights if the goods are faulty, not as described or otherwise fail to meet the requirements of consumer law.
Faulty or Incorrect Goods
If goods are faulty, damaged or materially different from what was agreed, please contact us so that we can assess the issue and provide the appropriate remedy.
11. Cancellations
If you need to cancel a project, order or service, please contact us as soon as possible.
Where work has not yet started, we will consider the cancellation and any refund due in accordance with the terms of the contract and applicable law.
Where materials have already been purchased, fabrication has begun or other costs have been incurred specifically for the project, these may be taken into account when determining any amount payable or refundable, subject to applicable consumer law.
Any cancellation charge will be reasonable and proportionate to the costs or losses actually incurred.
12. Blacksmithing Experiences & Classes
Bookings for blacksmithing experiences are subject to the specific booking information provided at the time of purchase.
Once a booking has been completed, Steedman Blacksmith will contact the customer to confirm the booking and arrange a suitable date.
If you need to change or cancel a booking, please contact us as soon as possible.
Where a customer cancels or requests a change, any refund or credit will be handled in accordance with the applicable cancellation rights and the booking terms provided at the time of purchase.
Steedman Blacksmith reserves the right to rearrange a class where necessary due to circumstances such as illness, equipment failure, severe weather or other circumstances outside our reasonable control. Where Steedman Blacksmith needs to cancel a booking, an alternative date or appropriate refund will be offered.
13. Workshop Safety
Customers attending blacksmithing experiences must follow all reasonable safety instructions given by Steedman Blacksmith.
Appropriate clothing and footwear requirements will be provided before the experience.
Anyone attending the workshop must inform Steedman Blacksmith of any relevant circumstances that could affect their ability to participate safely.
Steedman Blacksmith reserves the right to refuse participation where a person's behaviour or condition creates a serious safety risk to themselves or others.
This does not limit any liability that cannot legally be excluded.
14. Customer Responsibilities
Customers are responsible for providing accurate information where this is required to complete an order or project.
This includes, where applicable:
Correct contact details
Accurate measurements
Correct delivery information
Project specifications
Relevant site information
Access requirements
We cannot be responsible for problems resulting directly from incorrect information supplied by the customer, except where responsibility cannot legally be excluded.
15. Photographs & Completed Work
Steedman Blacksmith may photograph completed projects for use in portfolios, social media, advertising and other promotional material.
Where a project is at a private residential property or contains personally identifiable information, we will take reasonable care not to publish information that unnecessarily identifies the customer or their address.
If you do not want photographs of your completed project to be used for promotional purposes, please let us know before or during the project.
16. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.
This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability which cannot legally be excluded or limited.
For business customers, any agreed limitations of liability will be set out in the relevant quotation or contract where appropriate.
17. Complaints
If you are unhappy with any aspect of your order or service, please contact Steedman Blacksmith in the first instance.
We will investigate the issue and try to resolve it fairly and promptly.
Please provide as much information as possible, including your order or quotation reference and photographs where relevant.
18. Changes To These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time.
The terms applying to your purchase will generally be those in effect and provided to you when your order or contract was agreed.
The latest version will be published on this website.
19. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Scotland.
Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts, subject to any mandatory rights you may have under applicable consumer protection legislation.
